Mindy Thomas hosts the segment, which is a part of the “Kid’s Place Live” channel on SiriusXM Satellite Radio.   • SB&F Prize Kids' Choice Award

    In case you missed it, the 2011 SB&F Prize finalists have been announced. Right now our judges are reading over this year's finalists to choose a winner in each category. Winners will be announced in January and honored at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington, DC in February. This year, with extra support from Subaru, we are working with DC area school children to choose a Kids' Choice Award winner in two of the categories (Children's Science Picture Book and Middle Grades Science Book). Over 500 children from area schools are reading the books, discussing them in class, and voting for their favorite.   • New literary award for science writing

    PEN American Center announced today that acclaimed naturalist and two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Edward O. Wilson and actor and conservationist Harrison Ford have joined with PEN to create the PEN/E.O. Wilson Award for Literary Science Writing. “It’s wonderful to live in a time of great scientific advances,” said PEN’s president, Anthony Appiah, “but we aren’t doing a great job in communicating the fascination and the challenge of science to a wider public. I’m delighted that E.O.
